wedding at Dwight Hall at Yale was the kind of event that reminds us exactly why we do what we do—thoughtful planning, meaningful cultural elements, and a setting that brought their entire vision to life.
The client brought us on in December 2025 for planning support, day-of coordination, and event production. From the start, our role was to guide, support, and execute. We assisted in securing rentals, advised them throughout the planning process, and ultimately built a comprehensive, detailed timeline to ensure the day flowed seamlessly from start to finish.
We attended the rehearsal on April 17th, which proved to be a critical step. Being on-site allowed us to fully understand the layout, logistics, and flow of Dwight Hall at Yale. Originally constructed in 1842 as Yale’s first library, the building is designed in the Gothic Revival style—featuring pointed arches, dramatic vertical lines, and a historic, almost cathedral-like presence. That architectural style perfectly aligned with the clients vision for a dark, moody, gothic-inspired aesthetic, allowing the space itself to do much of the visual heavy lifting.

On the day of the wedding, our team arrived early to begin setup and prepare for the ceremony. From staging the wedding party to managing audio and executing cues, the ceremony was produced seamlessly. One of the most memorable moments came unexpectedly—the sound of church bells ringing out across the Yale campus during the 25-minute ceremony. Whether planned or not, it created a cinematic, almost surreal atmosphere that elevated an already powerful moment.
Following the ceremony came the most demanding logistical challenge of the evening. Due to factors outside of our control, we were given just one hour to completely transform the ceremony space into the reception space. This is where preparation, teamwork, and experience mattered most. Working closely with Atlas Event Staffing, our crew executed the flip efficiently and without disruption—moving furniture, setting tables, placing décor, and resetting the entire room with precision and urgency. What could have been a stressful transition became a smooth, coordinated operation.
The reception itself beautifully reflected the couple’s multicultural background. Rather than limiting themselves to one style of cuisine, the client curated a diverse culinary experience, bringing in four different restaurants to represent Nigerian, Korean, American, and Italian cuisine. Served buffet-style, it gave guests the opportunity to explore flavors from around the world and created a shared experience that felt both personal and inclusive.
One of the standout moments of the evening was the Asoebi, also known as the money dance—a vibrant and meaningful tradition in Nigerian culture. During this portion of the celebration, guests join the couple on the dance floor and spray or present money as a symbol of joy, support, and prosperity for their new life together. It’s not just a tradition—it’s an interactive celebration that brings energy into the room and connects guests directly to the couple’s future.
As the night came to a close, it was clear that every piece of the day—every detail, every transition, every cultural element—came together to create something truly memorable. The wedding was more than just an event; it was an experience that blended history, culture, and design in a way that felt effortless to guests, but was built on intentional planning and execution behind the scenes.

“We had the pleasure of working with Porchlight Events this past weekend at Stacey and Elliott’s wedding. They were efficient, professional and very team oriented. We look forward to working together again in the future!”
