In response to the heartbreaking number of veteran suicides in Connecticut and across the country, Porchlight has once again pledged to donate 10% of every event to organizations dedicated to ending veteran suicide. This marks the second consecutive year the company has committed to this cause.
“We try to do what we can for veterans,” says Porchlight owner Brian Formanek. “We regularly refer veteran-owned businesses to our clients, and many of our crew members take part in fundraising challenges throughout the year.”
The numbers are staggering. While it’s estimated that 22 veterans die by suicide each day, experts believe the true figure may be even higher due to underreporting. That means we likely lost over 8,000 veterans to suicide in just the past year alone—nearly four times the number of U.S. soldiers lost in Iraq and Afghanistan combined over two decades.
In 2024, Porchlight’s donation went to Stop Soldier Suicide, an organization working toward an ambitious yet vital goal: reducing the military suicide rate by 40% by 2030. They estimate that more than 131,000 veterans have died by suicide since 2001.
For many of us, this cause hits close to home. Chances are, you know a veteran who has struggled—or is still struggling.
If you’re able, we invite you to join us in supporting this critical mission. Every dollar makes a difference.
