We were subcontracted to provide production services for music festival in Rhinebeck, NY. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, event organizers had to ensure they created a “bubble” environment, and all vendors and guests were tested prior to being allowed entry onto the property.
The venue was a private residence on a large parcel of land, which included open field area’s, scenic gardens, and pavilions. We were to set-up in a designated area in a remote, semi-forested area.
We were subcontracted by OddParty Entertainment, who requested a mobile pop-up stage be constructed for performances of several local musical artists. Equipment included audio, DMX lighting, and visual displays- including special effects via a projector and large graphics.
We arrived on-site at approximately 2pm, and immediately began setting up. A major challenge was running power to the location, as we opted to not bring a generator due to noise interfering with the musical performances. This resulted in us having to run wires approximately 500ft from an out-building on the property.
Another major challenge was the weather, as temperatures were above 100 degrees that day. Despite this, our crew completed construction in about an hour and a half. Below are the results:

Performances were supposed to begin at approximately 5pm.
It quickly became overcast, and crew members began monitoring the weather. Due to a lack of cover, organizers were made aware that if the weather took a turn we’d have to pack-up.
We held out as long as we could, until we received an alert of severe thunderstorms and a tornado warning in the area. We packed up the equipment just in time- before rain started dumping on the area.
Below is a rendering of what the pop-up stage would have looked like had the weather held.
